2nd Class make Butter

We made butter in class recently as we were learning about what life was like long ago in Ireland. The butter was delicious.
Have a look at our pictures.

Grandparents Day

We recently celebrated Grandparents Day in our school. This day forms part of Catholic Schools Week. Some of the children in our class were very lucky as their grandparents came to visit our school. We asked them lots of questions about what life was like when they were young. Their answers were very interesting as some of the grandparents who visited our class grew up in Poland and Belarus. We sang songs and recited various poems for our grandparents. Then they enjoyed tea and snacks in our school with lots of other grandparents. Thank you so much for visiting our school.

Positivity Day

We celebrated Positivity Day on Friday, the 3rd of February. On this special day we brought our favourite toy to school and we had a popcorn party in our classroom. During assembly Múinteoir Paula gave everyone in the school a homework pass to celebrate this special day. We made kindness cards for the children in Múinteoir Laura's class. We really enjoyed Positivity Day.

Shopping in Ireland Long Ago

In SESE this week we have been learning about what life was like in Ireland long ago. Our grandparents lived in a different time to us and lots of things have changed. We talked about the different foods the ate, the clothes they wore, the houses they lived in etc. We compared the different types of shops that were in the community long ago to the modern shops and supermarkets we have in Ireland today. We investigated the type of receipts that our grandparents received when they bought items in the local shop. Did you know that these receipts were handwritten and that our grandparents bought only basic items as they grew lots of food at home?

Symmetrical Shapes

We have been busy learning about symmetry this week in Maths. We used a ruler to create a 'line of symmetry' Then we used different materials such a beads, links, domino shapes to create a symmetrical design,
We love active maths in our classroom.

Yaz, The Guide Dog

We had a visit this week from Marion and her guide dog, Yaz. Yaz is a 10 year old Golden Retriever. and he works as Marion's guide dog. He helps her to go to the shops, the hairdresser and he helps her to cross the road safely. Thank you so much for visiting our school. We learned so much.

Our Christmas Show

Our Christmas Show was held on the 20th of December. We performed various Christmas songs in English and Irish and we also played the tin whistle.  We had lots of fun performing for you on the day. We hope you enjoyed the show.
